Supreme Court Upholds Death Penalty In Murder Case Of Youths In Angulana

The Supreme Court on Wednesday (25) endorsed the death sentence delivered to four police officers including the former OIC of the Angulana police station, earlier handed over by the Colombo High Court.

Colombo High Court magistrate Devika de Livera Tennakoon presented the decision of the Supreme Court in front of the convicts.

They were given death sentence by the Colombo High Court upon conviction for several charges including the murder of two youth, Nimesh Tharanga Fernando and Dhanushka Udayakantha Aponsu on August 12, 2009. In addition, the policemen were convicted of kidnapping the two individuals as well as conspiring to commit murder.

The convicts include the former OIC of the Angulana police, a police sergeant, a constable and a civil security serviceman.
