Veteran Journalist D.F. Kariyakarawana Passes Away

Veteran journalist and former editor of Silumina newspaper D.F. Kariyakarawana passed away earlier this morning, at the age of 93.

Daniel Francis Kariyakarawana was born on February 8, 1922, in Kurana, Negombo. He was a past pupil of Bolawalana Boys’ School and later at Maris Stella College, Negombo.

He became a prolific writer at a younger age. No Sinhala newspaper or magazine escaped this young man who contributed short stories under the name ‘Kurana Kariyakarawana’ and his poems were published under the pseudonym, ‘Meegomu Kumara’, Buddhika Kurukularatne once wrote on Daily News.

Kariyakarawana joined Lake House in 1951 and remained until 1989. He served as the editor of Janatha, Dinamina and Silumina newspapers.
