Basil Rajapaksa Promises To Support Investigations

Former Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa said that he will fully support investigations on allegations against him a short while after returning to the country.

"I went abroad accepting the defeat of Mahinda Rajapaksa and also of our party. I came back after summoning by the court because I believe I should support investigations as a person who respects the law" Rajapaksa stated addressing the crowd which turned up to welcome him.

Basil Rajapaksa who was also the National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) left the country on the early hours of January 11, days after the defeat of his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa at the 2015 Presidential Election.

His wife Pushpa Rajapaksa also left the country with him.

Former secretary to the Ministry of Economic Development, Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka and former director of Divi Neguma Project R.K. Ranawaka were also questioned by Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division recently, over the same matter.

Moreover, a foundation run by Pushpa Rajapaksa is also under investigation.
