Parliament Likely To Be Dissolved In First Week Of May

The National Executive Council took a tentative decision to dissolve the parliament in the first week of May and hold the General Elections in June, Democratic People’s Front leader Mano Ganesan told Asian Mirror.

He explained that this was only a tentative decision and is subjected to consensus among political parties including the UNP, SLFP and minor parties.

“Election will be under current PR system sans preferential vote & with provision for MPs for each electorate nominated by party”, Ganesan wrote on his Twitter page a short while ago.

Speaking further to Asian Mirror, he said that a party will be able to nominate a member for each electorate and if a certain party wins the seat, the nominated member will be elected.
