Dayaratne Explains Return To UNP

Newly appointed Ampara District Organizer of United National Party P. Dayaratna said that he did not return to the UNP for personal benefits.

Speaking to local media, P. Dayaratna said that “I have come to my own home once again and that is it.”

A UPFA parliamentarian and former minister, he decided to support UNP recently.

Dayaratne started politics from the UNP and entered parliament in 1977. He joined UPFA during the presidency of Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He said that he joined UPFA to ‘support former president Rajapaksa to sweep terrorism out of the country’ and added that it was the correct thing to do at that time.
