Indrajith Cooray Sets New Sri Lankan Marathon Record

Marathon runner Anuradha Indrajith Cooray broke the Sri Lankan marathon record at the 14th London Marathon.

He finished the event in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 47 second and grabbed the 40 year-old Sri Lankan record which was set in 1975 by S.L.B. Rosa.

Anuradha Indrajith Cooray was born on March 24, 1978.  He started his running career as a 5000m runner at Divulapitiya Central College. He joined the Sri Lankan army in 1999.

Cooray reached his peak at the 2004 South Asian Games in Islamabad, April 2004, where he clocked two hours, 16 minutes, 36 seconds to secure the gold medal

He took part at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and finished at 30th place out of 133 with a time of 2.19.34.
