The Sri Lanka Freedom Party will not have an official Prime Ministerial candidate, President Maithripala Sirisena confirmed.

A statement by the Presidential Media Division said that Sirisena has not agreed to naming former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

If the UPFA wins the forthcoming election, President Sirisena will take a decision on whom to be named Prime Minister, after considering the opinion of other MPs of the party, the statement said.

Some Rajapaksa supporters had earlier claimed that the former president will be named Prime Ministerial candidate of the SLFP.
