Fonseka Willing To Join Anti-Rajapaksa Alliance

Democratic Party leader Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said that his party will consider joining an alliance only if the Rajapaksa faction shows a likelihood of coming to power.

Speaking at a party event to appoint several party organizers, Fonseka said that the DP intends to contest the election alone. He revealed that both SLFP and UNP had already shown interest in incorporating his party into alliances led by them. However, the DP remains in its stance, he said.

However, if Mahinda Rajapaksa shows the likelihood of being a serious threat, he will consider joining an anti-Rajapaksa alliance, Fonseka said.

He added that the party aims to attract around one million votes and predicted that the party could win around 20 seats.
