Without Funds SL Chess Champions Prevented Participating From World Tournament

World Schools Chess Championship to be held in December 2-12, 2016 Sochi, Russia this year.  

Without proper funding most of the decorated chess team members have not applied to this prestigious tournament.

This includes, Sasith Nipun Piyumantha from Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda who holds FIDE Master title and Roshell Natasha Askey of Ave Maria Convent Negombo, under 15 champion.

Only handful will be leaving for the tournament by funding privately.

An officer from Sri Lanka School's Chess Association mentioned that this tour cost as least Rs.3 lakhs per player and without funds and sponsors it is unaffordable for most members of the team.
