IPL Auctions 2017: Angelo Mathews Sold To Delhi Daredevils For Rs. 2 Crore

February 20, 2017

Sri Lanka’s captain Angelo Mathews has been bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs. 2 crore in Indian Premier auctions in Bengaluru. Before this Mathews was a part of Delhi Daredevils squad. He did not take part in the tournament last year but this year he will be there giving out his best. Mathews will not be available for the early part of the tournament as Sri Lanka will be playing against Bangladesh at home but he is certain to play 8 games out of 14 in the tournament.

All that Mathews brings to the table?

The Sri Lankan skipper is there for the team, batting till the last. He has been a big fighter for Sri Lanka all these years and nothing stops him from doing it, not even unfavorable conditions and a weak team. Mathews’ strength lies in his all-round skills and good cricketing brain.

The only thing that the franchisees were concerned about was his fitness. Mathews has been falling to injury every now and then. But Daredevils has kicked all such notions out of the park now.

A look at his T20 record

In 144 T20s he has played, he has scored 2337 runs at an average of 26.55 and a strike rate of 121.21. Such records cannot be ignored for the fact that Mathews boasts such record, batting lower down the order and bowling in the death overs. Let’s see what all can Mathews do with the new IPL team.(SW)
