Bob Marley’s Grandson Signs NFL Contract With Washington Redskins

Nico Marley, the grandson of Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley, has signed a professional contract with the NFL’s Washington Redskins on Tuesday.

The undrafted linebacker was signed after he tried out for the Redskins during the American football team’s rookie minicamp over the weekend. “Blessed to officially be apart [sic] of the @redskins organization!” Nico wrote in an Instagram post with a picture of him apparently signing his first pro contract.

The 22-year-old Florida native, who stands 5’8” and weighs 200 pounds (173cm/91kg) was a two-time first-team All-American Athletic Conference pick over the last two seasons of his college career. His father Rohan was also a linebacker who played for the University of Miami alongside such future NFLers as Dwayne Johnson, Warren Sapp, and Ray Lewis.

Despite having a famous name, Nico says he is looking to build a legacy of his own. “I always wanted to make something for myself,” he said to Sports Illustrated back in 2014. “I’ve never said, ‘I’m gonna do it like my dad did it,’ or ‘I want to be like my grandfather,’” he said.
