India vs Sri Lanka, 4th ODI: India Hand Sri Lanka Biggest Defeat At Home

September 01, 2017

Skipper Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma hit centuries as India thrashed Sri Lanka by 168 runs in the fourth one-day international to take a 4-0 lead in the five-match series in Colombo on Thursday. Winning the toss, India posted 375 for 5 at the R. Premadasa stadium.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for 207 in 42.4 overs. Kohli notched up his 29th century, while Rohit brought up his 13th century. Playing his 300th ODI, Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 49 not out and stitched an unbeaten 101-run partnership with Manish Pandey, who slammed his second ODI fifty. For Sri Lanka, Angelo Mathews claimed two wickets and scored 70 runs.

When the One-day International series with Sri Lanka was in its initial stages, the focus on Mahendra Singh Dhoni was more about his future, with conjectures on whether he was close to the end of his career.
But as the series progressed, two undefeated match-winning innings, combined with some fluent work behind the stumps have effectively silenced all those voices. Now, with the 4th ODI of the series to be played on Thursday, the focus is on two landmarks that the veteran is closing in on - 100 stumpings in ODIs and 73 not out innings in the same format, which will both be world records.
