Army Paralympics Athletes Excel At 18th Malaysian Open Wheelchair Tennis Championship

Army Para tennis players representing the Sri Lankan national Paralympics team excelled in the International Wheelchair Tennis Championship ‘18th Malaysian Open – 2017’ organized by the Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia (WTM) in collaborations with Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia and Malaysian Paralympics Council hosted the ITF UNIQLO, during 29 - 31 October at the National Tennis Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

More than one hundred Paralympics athletes, coaches and managers from India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Yemen, Korean Republic and Malaysia participated in the tournament. The Sri Lankan team was represented by Staff Sergeant Dissanayake Gamini, Corporal R.A.L.S Ranaweera, Lance Bombardier D.S.R Dharmasena, Corporal H.M.L Senarathna and National Tennis Coach Jagath Welikala.

Staff Sergeant Dissanayake Gamini secured the silver medal defeating his Korean opponent during the finals. Other competitors of the Sri Lankan team also entered quarter finals. Officials of High Commission of Sri Lanka in Malaysia assisted the visiting team and witnessed the final along with Sri Lankan resident in Malaysia.
