The Criminal Investigations Department has received information that 'Captain Tissa', a key suspects in the killing of former Rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, is attempting to flee the country via sea route.
The teams handling investigations have found out that the suspect still has the support of some sections of the Navy whose allegiance still lies with the previous administration.
The CID has already obtained a travel ban on 'Captain Tissa', a long-standing supporter and a chauffeur of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Travel bans were also issued on five other individuals who are allegedly involved in the case.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, a senior Police officer said all 'possible suspects' of the Thajudeen investigation were already under surveillance and they could not leave the country.
He added 'Captain Tissa' had a few houses in and around Colombo and his whereabouts had already been traced.
"Although the investigation team have identified suspects, they will require more time to make arrests. Six suspects are likely to be taken into custody before the next hearing of the case on January 20," he said.
