Danuna Tillekaratne, former son-in-law of Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, sent a letter of demand to Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, demanding Rs 25 million as damages for his reputation.
In the letter of demand, Tillekeratne says that he has been wrongly accused by Rajapakshe in several TV programmes regarding Rs 88.7 million deposited in his accounts.
Tillakaratne recalled that Rajapakshe had repeatedly made a claim that he had made a request from Rajapakshe to secure the release of an account with a deposit of Rs. 88.7 million. Rajapakshe was using this claim as an excuse to attack his former father-in-law Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Tillakaratne said.
He pointed out that he had made a request regarding only his private accounts which were frozen during the Hi-corp case. After his acquittal from the case, there was no reason to keep those accounts frozen, Tillekaratne said. However, Rajapakshe is trying to give the impression that the money has been acquired illegally, he also said.
Tillekaratne warned to take legal action within 14 days if his demands for damages are not met.
