Despite President Maithripala Sirisena's claims of keeping his family out of politics, President his son was at the forefront of the SLFP May Day rally held in Galle
Walking alongside him was Thilina Suranjith, son-in-law of President Sirisena. His wife and President Sirisena's daughter Chathurika Sirisena too was seen actively engaging in the May Day rally.
They were accompanied by a group of SLFP Local Government representatives of the Polonnaruwa district. The supporters walking beside them were seen wearing T-shirts and caps bearing the President's name.
The President's son, daughter and son-in-law do not hold any portfolio in the party, although they were seen at the forefront of the May Day march.
In his speech at the May Day rally, however, the President pledged to establish a 'clean' political culture, free of corruption and family bandy-ism.
