Heavy police presence was in predominantly Muslim areas on Friday morning ahead of Jumma prayers by Muslims. When contacted by Asian Mirror , Muslim religious leaders said they had "done their level best" to not to leave space for any provocation after Jumma prayers on Friday.
According to the sources of Police and the STF, today the focus is largely on predominantly Muslim areas in the Eastern province such as Kattankudy and Kalmunai. The Military is still stationed in Beruwala, Aluthgama and Dharga Town to avoid any clash after Jumma prayers.
The government yesterday said that groups with vested interests were trying to destabilize the country. Addressing the weekly cabinet briefing yesteday, Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said no would be allowed to take law into their hands.
However, such assurances of the government have hardly made any impact on hate-speech that is rampant in the social media space, which is largely directed at Muslims. It is crystal clear that such social media pages are run by proxies of extremist Sinhala-Buddhist organizations such as the Bodu Bala Sena and Sihala Ravaya.
