Two days could be required to restore train services between Thambuttegama and Thalawa in the Northern Line, the Anuradgapura CGR said.
The rail track has been inundated due to floods between the two stations and a section of the track has washed away.
Trains will run between Fort and Thambuttegama and from the north down to Thalawa, authorities said. A bus service will be utilized to transport commuters between the stations.
Meanwhile, four trains from Colombo to the north were stopped this morning due to the flooding in the area this morning.
