No ICC Events In Sri Lanka For Next 08 Years

Sri Lanka, a full member country of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has not been selected to host any of the ICC events for the next eights years.

In addition to Sri Lanka, Pakistan has also been cold-shouldered in naming host countries for ICC events. However, there were concerns over security in Pakistan after the Sri Lankan cricket team came under attack in Lahore in 2009.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, does not have security issues and it hosted four major ICC events after the end of war.

All major ICC events for the next eight years have been shared among three countries who call themselves the "big three" - namely India, Australia and England.

The major ICC global events include ICC World T20 Cup 2016 (India), ICC Champions Trophy  2017 (England), Cricket World cup 2019 (England), ICC World T20 2020 (Australia), ICC Champions Trophy 2021 (India) and ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 (India).

ICC qualifying events such as ICC World T20 Qualifier (2015), ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier (2018), ICC World T20 Qualifier (2019) and ICC Cricket World Xup Qualifier (2022) have been shared among Ireland/ Scotland, Bangladesh, TBC and Zimbabwe.

Other ICC events such as U19 Cricket World Cup, Women's World Cup and Women's T20 World Cup have been shared among ICC full member countries, except Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
