Giving a new twist to the power struggle in the country’s football administration, President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka Ranjith Rodrigo has lodged a complaint with the DIG of Colombo that he has received death threats.

Rogrido had said those who were involved in financial misappropriations in the football Federation of Sri Lanka should be held responsible for death threats.

The FFSL Chief has told the DIG of Colombo that he got to know about attempts to kill him from “reliable sources.” He has said he will continue to function as the President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka despite death threats.

In his statement, the FFSL President had added that some groups were trying to put a parcel of drugs into his vehicle and trap him for a “drugs scandal”.

The FFSL chied earlier accused Manilal Fernando, former President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka, of financial misappropriation during the latter’s tenure as the head of the country’s football administration. Fernando, addressing a media conference in Colombo several months ago, distanced himself from bribery and corruption allegations and said he was “innocent”.

There is a division in the Football Federation of Sri Lanka with one group still supporting Manilal Fernando and the other group backing Rodrigo.

However, Fernando is presently facing a lifetime ban from FIFA for violating the FIFA code of conduct.

Although Asian Mirror attempted to get a comment from Manilal Fernando over the allegations made by the FFSL chief, our efforts did not bear fruit due to his busy schedule.
