Arjuna Mahendran Before Presidential Commission: Questioned On Treasury Bond Issue

Former Central Bank Arjuna Mahendra appeared before the Presidential Commission to inquire into the Central Bank Treasury Bond issue a short while ago.

He is expected to make an initial statement on the bond auction at the Central Bank during his tenure, that resulted in Perpetual Treasuries - a company allegedly owned by Mahendran's son-in-law making 'unprecedented gains.'

On January 27, President Sirisena appointed Supreme Court Judges Kankanithanthri T. Chitrasiri, Prasanna Sujeewa Jayawardena and former Deputy Auditor General Kandasamy Velupillai to inquire into the Treasury Bond issue.

The Commission began formal hearings on February 6.
