President Mahinda Rajapaksa has spoken to Sri Lankan star cricketer Kumar Sangakkara and national player Thisara Perera over the phone about the crisis simmering in the country's cricket administration.
Sangakkara has made President Rajapaksa aware of the problems involving some senior officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and several prominent key players in the national cricket team. Sangakkara has told the President that the conduct of some officials is likely to make a debilitating impact on the cricket team and its performance.

The star cricketer has also pointed out that some officials are using the names of Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa and Yoshitha Rajapaksa to justify their unjustifiable decisions.
In response, President had promised to intervene in his matter and inquire into the present crisis. Rajapaksa had also added that his sons were not interfering with the work of the cricket administration and the officials had deliberately painted a wrong picture.
SLC bigwig Nishantha Ranatunga is at the receiving end of criticism for making arbitrary decisions souring the relations between players and the cricket administration.
After the telephone conversation with Sangakkara, the President had also contacted Thisara Perera, who is on the verge of retiring from international cricket. Thisara Perera had told the President that he was treated in a shabby manner by some prominent administrators.
The President had urged the cricketer not to make any hasty decisions such as retiring from international cricket and had promised to launch an inquiry into the circumstances which led to his removal from the national cricket team.
