Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne Remanded For Aiding Navy Sampath: Magistrate Denies Bail To Prevent Obstructions To Investigations

The Colombo Fort Magistrate remanded Sri Lanka's highest ranking military officer, Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, until December 05. 

Wijegunaratne was remanded for aiding Chandana Hettiarachchi alias Navy Sampath, the main suspect in the case of abductions and killings of 11 youth, abscond the Police. 

The Magistrate refused bail to Wijegunaratne on the grounds that there would be obstructions to the investigations if the court granted bail to the accused. 

He was due to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department yesterday to gave a statement but gave it a miss at the eleventh hour. He surrendered to the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court, this morning, with his lawyers.
