Filing a lawsuit before Colombo District Court, the Mayor of Kaduwela Municipal Council G.H. Buddhadasa had claimed a sum of Rs.100 million as damages from National Freedom Front (NFF) Media spokesman Mohammad Muzammil for making defamatory remarks on him.
The Kaduwela Major alleged that the NFF media spokesman had made this statement with wrongful intention to defame him and had given a wrong impression to the general public that he was unconscious about country’s national policies. He further alleged that the NFF media spokesman had made a statement to media on May 22, 2014 portraying him as a scrounger (pinguttaraya - a derogatory term in Sinhala) - causing damage to his reputation.
