Opposition leader of the Uva Provincial Council election Harin Fernando is to be appointed as the Deputy National Organizer of the UNP.
Although he was previously offered the position of the head of the UNP Youth Front, Fenrnaod declined the offer stating he wanted Ruwan Wijeyawardena to remain in the position as the latter had already done “great service” to the party. It was Wijeyawardena who offered to resign from his position to make way for Fernando to become the leader of the UNP Youth Front.

Meanwhile, former Parliamentarian Imthiaz Bakeer Markar too is tipped to be re-appointed to the Working Committee of the party. The former Parliamentarian lost his WC position after he extended his support to Hambanthota District Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa who was at loggerheads with the party leadership.
The appointments have been approved by UNP National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
However, no significant responsibility has still been given to Rathnapura District Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake who was one of the key speakers of the Uva election campaign where the UNP showed remarkable progress.
Ramanayake’s name is not among the members of the G-20 group – which was appointed by the party Working Committee to handle its election campaign.
