Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa stated that the decision to enter into a national government was taken after considering two factors.
Speaking to media, Yapa said that these key factors are the constitutional amendments and electoral reforms.
The SLFP members of parliament came to an agreement on this. In addition, the Central Committee also agreed on this. An agreement has been reached on eight key points in the constitutional amendments. SLFP also contributed to these amendments, Yapa added.
The other point is electoral reforms, Yapa stressed, adding that the two parties have come to an agreement on this.
The 19th Amendment to the Constitution was given Cabinet approval on March 15 and the Gazette Notification was published at March 16 midnight. However, a debate has arisen afterwards on a discrepancy between the version agreed to by the Cabinet and the version in the Gazette Notification.
Meanwhile, parties of the UPFA recently came to an agreement recently to accept the Dinesh Gunawardena Committee Report as the basis for electoral reform.
