Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne announced today (23) that a special security inspection of the Parliament complex will be carried out over three days in November — on 4th, 6th, and 7th.
He stated that the entire Parliament building, including MPs’ restrooms and lockers, will be subject to the inspection. On Friday, 7 November, the high-security zones within the Parliament premises will also be examined as part of the security operation.
The Speaker further noted that on that day, access to the public gallery will be restricted to invited guests only. Invitations for guests will be issued through the Ministry of Finance.
Additionally, MPs have been informed to arrive with their designated drivers on 7 November, as a special security procedure will be in effect. The Speaker also announced that the Parliament car park will remain closed that day, and vehicles transporting MPs will be directed to alternative parking areas.
He added that a special traffic and parking arrangement will be implemented in conjunction with the security inspection.
