The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has suspended Wellawaya District Judge and Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake.

The suspension was reportedly based on an investigation conducted by the JSC following a complaint lodged by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) with the Chief Justice regarding several of his court rulings.

The investigation is focused on alleged irregularities in cases involving the lifting of foreign travel bans and the release of items produced as court exhibits.

Manjula Ratnayake, who previously served as a Magistrate at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, was transferred to the Wellawaya Court recently.
