Investigations have revealed that the female lawyer arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for allegedly aiding and abetting the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa had previously appeared in court for underworld figure Kehelbaddara Padme.
It is suspected that Kehelbaddara Padme had paid the lawyer several hundred thousand rupees, prompting the CID to initiate a court-approved investigation into her bank accounts and to obtain forensic analysis reports of her mobile phones.
Further investigations have also uncovered that the suspect had travelled to Dubai via Singapore through the Katunayake International Airport in June this year.
According to investigators, the lawyer had frequently changed her residence, renting different houses under short-term agreements.
It has also been revealed that she had represented Nadun Chinthaka, alias “Harak Kata,” and Salindu Malshika alias “Kudu Salindu” during his arrest in Madagascar, handling his legal matters at the time.
In addition, the lawyer had appeared for another criminal suspect arrested in India on charges of border violations, according to reports.
