Jaffna District Parliamentarian Ramnathan Archuna stated that he carries a sword for his personal protection as the government has failed to provide him with security despite repeated death threats against him.
He said that he has officially informed both the Speaker of Parliament and the Inspector General of Police about the threats to his life.
The MP revealed that he had made two written requests to the government seeking security but received no response. He further noted that even his requests for a licensed firearm and, later, a spray gun for self-defence had gone unanswered.
“As I received no protection from the government, I now keep a sword with me at all times for my safety. It’s always in my vehicle,” Archuna said.
