NPP local government councillor has resigned following the arrest of her husband and son in connection with a drug-related incident.

Legal proceedings against the two suspects are currently under way.

Disna Niranjala Kumari, who was elected to the Peliyagoda Urban Council at the last local government election on the National People’s Power ticket, tendered her resignation citing personal distress caused by the incident and her commitment to supporting the ongoing legal process.

According to the NPP, she stepped down voluntarily, noting that her decision was also intended to uphold the party’s efforts to foster a culture of clean politics at a time when the NPP-led government is prioritising a nationwide crackdown on drugs.

She has sent her resignation letter to the Gampaha District Returning Officer, while a copy has also been forwarded to the NPP General Secretary.
