Casual Cricket Game Turns Fatal as Player Dies in Mid-Air Collision

A player died after two fielders collided while attempting to catch a high ball during a soft-ball cricket match at the Aluthapola Walagamba School grounds in the Minuwangoda Police Division today (9 November).

The two players collided as they moved to take an overhead catch, resulting in injuries to one of them. The injured player was admitted to the Minuwangoda Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.

The deceased, aged 41, was a resident of Katuwellegama.

The body has been placed at the mortuary of the Minuwangoda Base Hospital for the post-mortem examination. Minuwangoda Police are conducting further investigations.
