Former Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

He arrived at the Bribery Commission this morning (12).

UPDATE (10.00 a.m.)

Prasanna Ranatunga has been arrested in connection with the alleged unlawful appointment of My Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd, a private brokerage firm, to handle direct medical insurance services for employees of four institutions under the Ministry of Tourism — the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Sri Lanka Institute of Hotel Management, and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau.

It is alleged that through this irregular appointment, arrangements were made for Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation to pay a commission of Rs. 4,750,828.72 to the said company, thereby granting it an undue advantage and causing financial loss to the Corporation.
