Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake personally contacted Pakistani authorities to discuss the national cricket team’s safety ahead of their ongoing tour of Pakistan, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told the Senate on Thursday (13).

Naqvi said both Sri Lanka Cricket and the players had initially expressed concerns following recent security threats in Islamabad, before deciding to proceed with the tour.

The minister added that the Sri Lankan team has been granted state guest status during their stay in Pakistan, with Field Marshal Asim Munir providing full security assurances.

Addressing lawmakers, Naqvi revealed that the recent terrorist threats in Islamabad were linked to networks operating from Afghanistan. (Pakistan media)
