The Avissawella Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release on bail of a kapuwa and another individual accused of sexually abusing a 38-year-old woman under the guise of applying a medicinal oil treatment for swelling on her head and legs. The alleged assault had also been filmed and circulated on social media.
Presenting facts to court, Eheliyagoda Police said the suspects had first applied an oil mixture to the complainant’s forehead. The woman had reportedly told them she had visited to have an enchanted king-coconut, as noted in her complaint.
She had further stated that she could not recall what happened afterwards, claiming she had lost consciousness. Upon regaining awareness, the suspects had allegedly given her king coconut water to drink, police informed the court.
A few days later, a friend had alerted her that a video containing her nude images was being shared on social media, the complaint said, according to police.
Police told court that investigations into the incident were still ongoing and requested that the suspects be remanded further.
However, appearing for the suspects, defence lawyers rejected the allegations, insisting their clients had not rendered the woman unconscious, abused her, or filmed her without consent. They claimed all acts had occurred with the woman’s agreement, adding that the video circulating online made this evident.
The case will be taken up again on 26 May 2026.
