Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti has said that shootings and criminal incidents across the country have not been completely eliminated, adding that if they were fully stopped, the police would have no work to do.
Speaking to journalists about the ongoing gunfire incidents in various parts of the country, Handunnetti said, “If there is a country in the world where shootings don’t happen at all, that would be something remarkable. We haven’t completely ended them. If we had, the police would have no duties to perform.”
The Minister also commented on the public gathering scheduled for today (21 November). He noted, “It’s not like we’re gathering a massive number of people just from a few chickens’ eggs, or over a short period. Usually, when we hold a meeting, it doesn’t create this much fuss. But now, for the 21st, the whole of Colombo will be involved. Let’s see what happens after the 21st.”
