Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) General Secretary and Nuwara-Eliya District Parliamentarian Jeevan Thondaman bid farewell to bachelorhood today, uniting in marriage with Seethai Srii Naachiar Rameswaran in a traditional ceremony held in India.

The wedding took place on the 23rd at the Arumugam Pillai Seethaiammaal College campus in Thiruppathur, Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu. The auspicious timeframe for the ceremony was set between 10.15 a.m. and 11.15 a.m., during which Jeevan Thondaman tied the traditional “Thali” (mangala sutra) amidst the reverberating crescendo of the “Kettimelam” wedding drum roll.

The event was attended by a significant number of dignitaries from Sri Lanka. Distinguished guests included former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe, who traveled to Thiruppathur to witness the union. Fellow Parliamentarians, including Mano Ganesan and Shanakiyan Rasamanickam, were also present to convey their wishes to the couple.

Seethai Srii Naachiar is a fourth-year medical student at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in Dublin. The marriage is an arranged union, initiated by Jeevan Thondaman’s mother, Rajalakshmi Thondaman. The two families share a long-standing connection; notably, the groom’s late father, Arumugan Thondaman, and the bride’s father, Rameswaran, were both alumni of the prestigious Montfort Boys School in Yercaud, Salem district, Tamil Nadu.

Following the conclusion of the wedding and related traditional ceremonies in India, the festivities will move to Sri Lanka. A grand reception is scheduled to be held at the Grand Ballroom of the Colombo Hilton Hotel on 28 November. The family has also organized a subsequent reception in Kotagala to celebrate with supporters and the local community.
