The final report compiled by retired High Court Judge Sujatha Alahapperuma, who was appointed to investigate allegations of sexual harassment involving a female employee of Parliament, was handed over to Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne yesterday (24).

The matter was first raised in Parliament on 7 January by MP Mujibur Rahman, who informed the House that a female employee of the Department of Information Systems and Management had allegedly been subjected to sexual harassment. An internal inquiry was conducted following the complaint; however, as the complainant was dissatisfied with its outcome, the Parliamentary Staff Advisory Committee decided on 25 July to initiate an external investigation.

Judge Alahapperuma subsequently summoned all relevant parties, examined testimonies and documents, and compiled the final report.

According to the findings submitted to the Speaker, the investigation concluded that no act of sexual harassment had occurred against the complainant. The report further states that no incidents of sexual harassment were found involving any other female employees in the same division.
