World Cup-winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga has launched a scathing attack on the current national cricket team, labeling them as players who possess talent but lack the “brains” and “shame” necessary to win.
Speaking to a gathering of students, the cricketing legend didn’t mince his words. He argued that while the current squad is technically more gifted than his iconic 1996 World Cup-winning team, they fail due to a severe lack of discipline and game intelligence.
“The ones who learn have the brain to judge how to face the ball… today, everything is about money,” Ranatunga fired back, contrasting the modern era with his own playing days. “When I lost a match, I didn’t even come out of the dressing room. That was the shame we felt.”
Ranatunga also took a swipe at the administration, comparing the Cricket Board to “parents doing wrong,” suggesting that the players’ lack of direction stems from poor leadership at the top.
