A special rescue operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy is currently underway to save passengers trapped following a bus carrying nearly 70 passengers has become stranded on the Kalawewa bridge along the Anuradhapura–Puttalam road on Friday (28).

By yesterday evening, the people in the bus had been rescued and taken to a safe place (roof) nearby. It was reported that, due to the weather conditions, it was difficult for the rescue teams to reach the place

According to H.S.K.J. Bandara, Director General of Government Information, the mission involves the deployment of highly trained personnel from the Navy’s Special Boat Squadron (SBS), the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS), and a Navy Diving Unit.

The Special Boat Squadron is currently utilizing Combat Rubber Raiding Craft (CRRC) to navigate towards the specific location where the victims are stranded to execute the rescue.
