Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam siad recently that an impeachment motion should be brought against the President in Parliament, citing the government’s inability to govern effectively during the recent disaster.
Kariyawasam called on the main Opposition to use this situation as an opportunity to table such a motion. He pointed out that this process would enable the public to understand exactly what the President and Cabinet Ministers failed to do during the crisis.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the SLPP party headquarters, the General Secretary alleged that the current administration is making a concerted effort to conceal its negligence, incompetence, and, in some instances, deliberate errors committed during the disaster, by misusing state power.
Kariyawasam further emphasised that the government’s attempt to engage in politics at the expense of the victims’ tears and lives must be brought to a halt.
