Parliamentarian Ramanathan Archchuna has been arrested by the Fort Police.
The arrest follows an order issued yesterday (23) by Fort Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara, directing police to take the MP into custody and produce him before court after he failed to appear for a hearing in a case related to the alleged obstruction of a police officer’s duties.
The case concerns accusations that Archchuna exerted pressure on a police officer attached to the Fort Police. Although the MP had previously been released on bail in connection with the case, he did not appear before open court when the matter was taken up yesterday.
As a result, an open warrant was issued for Ramanathan Archchuna’s arrest.
