A police constable who was attached to the Sooriyakanda Police and later suspended following an incident involving Member of Parliament Shantha Padmakumara appeared before the Kolonna Police on 28 to record a statement.

Speaking to the media, the constable said he had arrived to provide a statement in connection with a written complaint he lodged with the Ratnapura Deputy Inspector General of Police on 26, citing concerns over his personal safety.

He alleged that none of the suspects who assaulted him have been arrested so far, and said their continued freedom poses a serious threat to his life and the safety of his family.

The constable said he had therefore requested police protection.

He further said that, to date, he has not received justice in relation to the incident.
