Police have arrested three suspects and recovered 11 stolen three-wheelers following an investigation into a theft reported to the Mirihana Police.
The inquiry began after a three-wheeler was stolen during a musical show in the Kimbulawala area. Investigators later located the vehicle in the Kuruwita area, where one suspect was taken into custody.
During extended questioning, two more suspects were arrested. Further investigations led police to recover ten additional three-wheelers that had been stolen from Yatiyantota, Balangoda, Badulla and Battaramulla.
Police said the suspects had altered the colour, chassis numbers and registration plates of the vehicles and had prepared forged documents in order to sell them. Several stolen three-wheelers had already been sold, according to investigators.
The arrested suspects, aged 30 and 46, are residents of Kelaniya, Ambalangoda and Parakaduwa.
The Nugegoda Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau is continuing further investigations.
