Eric Meyer, a career diplomat in the United States Senior Foreign Service, is expected to be appointed as Washington’s next Ambassador to Sri Lanka, following reports that President Donald Trump has nominated him for the post.
Meyer currently serves as the Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, where he oversees policy coordination across the region, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
His recent overseas assignments include postings as Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, at the US Mission to Norway, and as Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Skopje, North Macedonia.
Meyer’s nomination comes shortly after the conclusion of Julie Chung’s tenure as US Ambassador to Sri Lanka. Chung completed her nearly four-year term yesterday (16), having served in Colombo since 2022.
