Health and Mass Media Minister Dr Nalinda Jayatissa has accused the Opposition of deliberately creating fear in society over the Government’s proposed education reforms.

Addressing a meeting in Bandaragama, the Minister said certain statements made by Opposition figures were aimed at frightening parents who are deeply concerned about the education and well-being of their children.

Referring to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Dr Jayatissa made a sarcastic remark, stating that even the sight of a rainbow was being portrayed as something alarming. He said if merely looking at the cover of a book could be twisted to suggest inappropriate meanings, then such narratives were clearly intended to mislead and unsettle parents.

He added that parents who lovingly raise their children, send them to school, and place their trust in the education system were being unnecessarily alarmed through exaggerated and distorted claims.

Dr Jayatissa made these remarks while speaking at a conference held in Bandaragama.
