Police say information has surfaced regarding four individuals allegedly connected to the fatal shooting of a lawyer in the Akuregoda area.

Addressing a media briefing today, a senior Police officer stated that it cannot yet be confirmed whether the vehicle set on fire in the Baddegama area of Galle was the same car used by the suspects to carry out the shooting. He noted that such confirmation would only be possible following the Government Analyst’s report.

Based on information currently available, investigators believe the vehicle in question had not travelled via the expressway, the officer added.

He further said that while the deceased lawyer had previously been questioned in connection with a drug-related incident, there had been no reports indicating that he had received death threats.

The officer also stated that, thus far, no information has emerged to suggest that the lawyer had links to organised criminal groups.
