Former President Maithripala Sirisena says he is unable to express a definitive view on the two-year tenure of the present Government and the President, adding that the true assessment should be sought from the general public.
Responding to several questions raised by journalists on Friday (20), Sirisena stated that he does not pay close attention to current political developments.
“To be honest, I do not know much about those matters. I do not read newspapers or follow the media very closely. Therefore, I have not heard much about it,” he said.
When asked whether the current administration and the President could be considered satisfactory after two years in office, the former President said that the success or failure of a government should be determined by those who are facing hardships.
“You must ask the people waiting at bus halts on the roadside or those who come to hospitals to obtain medicine. If you ask them, they will tell you what is good and what is not,” he added.
