The second gunman arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a lawyer and his wife in Akuregoda, Talangama, has been brought to Colombo along with two other suspects, the Western Province South Crimes Division said.
The suspect was taken into custody by the Monaragala Police and is reported to be a former naval rating, according to police.
A senior police officer has told to Lankadeepa that investigations have revealed the suspect had allegedly been involved in more than eight shooting incidents in the Southern Province, resulting in 11 murders. He had not previously been arrested in connection with any of those killings, the officer added.
Earlier, five suspects, including two brothers from the same family, were arrested over the murder of the lawyer and his wife. Police have obtained 90-day detention orders against three of them.
