Power supply disruptions across the country may take around three days to be fully restored, according to Nandana Udayakumara, President of the Technical Engineers and Electrical Superintendents’ Association.
He made this statement when asked about the decision to call off the electricity workers’ strike following discussions held this evening (11) with the intervention of the Department of Labour, where trade unions and the management reached an agreement.
Udayakumara earlier stated that more than 15,000 power breakdowns had been reported during the strike launched by electricity sector trade unions.
Following the agreement, more than 16,000 electricity workers who had joined the strike are expected to report back to duty.
The widespread power disruptions significantly affected production and services in both the public and private sectors, while thousands of families were also impacted.
